A fictional depiction of reality
Manoeuvring through life I have never felt more lost in my thoughts than in recent times. Walking around the city, a little puppy riding along with its owner on the back of a bike catches my attention, while I notice my shoelace untying. The moment I bend down to tie it again, I suddenly enter another reality where everything is upside down. The rain had left puddles throughout the city and the fresh morning sun was casting its light just right to create perfect reflections of everything it can hit. I think to myself that this would be the perfect moment for some photography, it’s good thing I brought my camera. I get up and ponder some more; creativity is infinite but where do I put it to use best?
I have decided to be updating the playlist weekly for the whole of 2018! You can press play right away and then scroll down to continue the story.
The pressure to share
I take out my phone, I need some music. Continuing my walk I feel a strong sense of disconnection looming over me. I always have possessed a willingness to share my creativity, as I proved with my numerous photography projects. With music being my second passion, I have been on a restless journey to being able to connect with people over it. Where I loved creating music at first, I now think that I developed an exquisite taste that could be enjoyed by many surrounding me.
I want to spar with people about mainstream artists like Drake, The Weeknd & J. Cole, while also telling them about Wade Hampton, Johnny Rain & Che Ecru. I want them to know about these artists that will perfectly match their taste and I want them to really hear what stories those artists tell them so that they can feel the same connection on an emotional level that I felt when I first heard these songs. I want them to understand what I experience and why I choose my soundtracks and I want to be inspired by other people’s journeys. All I really need is a platform or a product for me to put out into the world to start the conversation.
Conceiving the idea
Ending my walk at my house downtown, I finally put down the camera I was carrying all the time but let the music I listened to continue through my Sonos speaker. I open my laptop to import my fresh photography and stare at the screen for a minute to let the computer finish. Without thinking much of it I open my Spotify app and start collecting a few of my current favourite songs. There are a solid 20 of them, which I put together in a playlist. I think to myself, 20 Tracks is all you need to start a conversation.
See you next week.
